About Spirit Forest

Raising daughters isn't easy for this adventurous single mom. It has always been a dream of mine to own land and build a small cabin. I am making this dream come true.. over the next few years I will be building a cabin in the mountains of Colorado.

In the meantime, I will take this opportunity to teach my daughters survival skills, camping techniques, building fundamentals, and respect for outdoor life and adventures. I am an active backpacker and have had training in outdoor survival skills it is now time for me to teach my girls. I will push their limits, I will amaze them, I will aggravate them, I will make them use their minds, I will not only be their mom but their teacher. I plan on documenting this adventure though a video blog in hopes other single moms and married moms could learn from my successes and failures and will find the strength to take their daughters away from technology and out to experience nature.

FAQ

LOCATION:
Where are you located?
I am located in Colorado.  I do not give the exact location to protect my privacy and family.
What is the size of your land?
I have only 2 acres, but no debt.  No debt was more important to me than a larger piece of land.
Are you looking to expand your land?
At this moment I am not. However, if an opportunity comes and I have the funds, I might consider it.  I also might consider buying another piece of land in a different area.
Are you going to build a cabin at Spirit Forest?
The final decision has not been made, but I would love to.  My issues for doing it now, is the cost to build.
Can I camp at Spirit Forest?
As of right now, I only offer camping for those that will be taking my classes.

ABOUT ME:
If I wanted to know more about you where would I find it?
My youtube page has over 100 videos for you to watch talking about, Colorado Backpacking, Purchasing Land in Colorado, Kayaking in the City and Mountain Lakes, Kids Camping Activities, Safety while camping, Kids survival Skills, Living in a Canvas Tent.. and many more.
Why did I put this journey public on social media?
I want to be able to motivate others to get in the outdoors, there is so much to learn.  I am always learning.
Why do you camp alone (or just with your dog) so much?
I like my alone time, and I am not afraid to be alone.  I do hike and backpack with others, but when I am with friends I don't always film.
Why don't you just live in your tent?  Why do you go back to the city?
My daughters daddy lives in the city, it is very important for them to be with their daddy too.  My job also requires me to have reliable internet, there is no extended power or internet on my land.
What do you do in the winter months?
I SKI!!!   I have a pass and go up to the mountains just about every weekend to ski.  So I am not at Spirit Forest as much as I am in the summer.
Will you camp in the winter months?
Yes, I do, and will be filming my experience.  Winter camping is very different than Spring/Summer/Fall camping.
How many days did you spend in a tent 2018?
I have spent about 60+ days in a tent and loved every min of it.

ROCKY THE ROTTWEILER:
Where did you purchase Rocky (Rottweiler dog)?
I did purchase him from a breeder, but I don't recommend the breeder so will not share.
How much does Rocky eat in a day?
He eats about 6 cups a day and when backpacking about 7-8 cups of food.
When you backpack with Rocky how much does his pack weigh?
It weighs about 15lb-20lb.  He is a strong dog and can handle the extra weight.  After all he is a "working dog."  He considers backpacking as part of his "job."
How much does Rocky weigh?
He ranges from 110-120 lbs.

THE TENT:
Where did you purchase your canvas tent?
I purchased my canvas tent at Colorado Yurts
How big is the tent?
16' x 14'
How big is the Deck the tent sits on?
24' x 14'
Why don't you use your canvas tent in the winter months?
The tent will not be able to handle the snow load.  It can only handle about 3-4" of snow.  And in the Winter months most weekends I am enjoying skiing in the mountains.  The tent is too far away from ski resorts and I might not have access year around without having to pay someone to plow the driveway/road.

How much did your driveway cost?
$2,000 (Originally cost $1,500 but it was too steep for small cars so purchased more dirt)
